CHRIS COLFER

LOS ANGELES -- Clovis East graduate Chris Colfer is the darling of the awards season, which includes a best supporting actor nomination at tonight's "68th Golden Globe Awards."As gay teen Kurt Hummel, Colfer's sung and danced as much as any other member of the talented "Glee" cast on the Fox musical/comedy this season. But it's his acting of powerful storylines -- from emotional moments with his father (Mike O'Malley) to dealing with never-ending bullying -- that's earned him accolades.

VAN HANSIS

When Jake Silbermann joined the cast of "As the World Turns" more than three years ago, he had no clue he was about to make history. That's because his character, a hunky teen named Noah, ditched his girlfriend to be in the arms of his true love. And that love was none other than Luke (played by Van Hansis), a major character who was openly gay and okay with it. Proctor and Gamble who owns the show got lots of hate mail from the conservatives and almost was set to get-rid of the part. However they backed down and the show ran for another three years. It finally cancelled this past year.

PRINCE POPPYCOCK

I need another excuse to write "Poppycock" a few more times, but you could hardly blame me if it was. Sure, poppycock is just candied popcorn, but we all know what John Quale, a Virginia native and America's Got Talent finalist, really had in mind when he invented the dandyish Prince Poppycock character for his operatic, burlesque stage show. Of course, that was out in Los Angeles, the capital of glam. But on TV? Somehow, yes. It's astounding that NBC allowed him to advance on the show, given his subversive name and character, but Prince Poppycock's success there had less to do with progressive permissiveness than his own towering talents.
